Getting Here

Ampus is about 12 hours' driving from Calais, which we usually do spread over 2 days with an enjoyable stop somewhere in the middle of France. However, it is also easy to fly to Nice and hire a car. The drive from Nice to Ampus takes about 1 hour 20 minutes along the A8 motorway westwards leaving at the Draguignan/St Tropez exit, number 36. (Flying to Toulon - 100 km - or Marseilles - 150 km - are also possibilities. They are much smaller airports than Nice.) Eurostar direct to Avignon (then a 2-hour drive to Ampus) is a possibility, as is the TGV (high speed train) to Les Arcs (called Les Arcs Draguignan) which is about 30 minutes from the house.

The map shows the location of the house. (The area to the north of Ampus is a huge area of unspoilt countryside owned by the French military. It provides a beautiful backdrop to the villages of the area, which you can drive through.)
